How can I make learning interactive for my students? There are so many different apps and websites...where to start?!? I have tried to show students videos about chemistry topics that I can not demonstrate for students in my classroom. I would be so excited to show the students the video and they would put their heads down. I would walk around the classroom checking they were paying attention, I would make up worksheets for them to "fill in.” I still didn't feel like I was reaching the kids. Some students would fill in the worksheet, some would be interested, but how do I reach more students? Well, I was introduced to EduCanon.
The eduCanon website explains it well.
"What is EduCannon?
Our belief is that technology should empower teachers. Each student has unique learning needs and teachers don't have the tools to personalize their lessons to those needs. The eduCanon platform is a tool for teachers to build lessons with interactive timed questions and engaging video content. Already, we've been amazed by the creative and inspirational uses of eduCanon by teachers--for flipped and blended learning environments."

I used eduCanon as a quick check on the concept of stoichiometry. I picked a really good tutorial video from YouTube on stoichiometry. It explained the concepts and then gave a sample problem. I watched the video and added the question of what the answer would be to the sample problem. The video would pause for the student to answer the question. After the student select his/her answer, the video started and showed how to work out the problem and the student could check the work he/she did.
I can't wait to use it again with my students. I also like that I can share the link and the students can watch the video again.
Here is a link to an eduCanon I made on technology integration. You will need to make an account to use this but it is free and easy.
