Screencasting Tools for Creating or Accessing Public Work
Screencasting is when someone explains a topic through the use of visuals and records it so others may learn from the presentation. Screencasts are very useful for teachers to create flipped lessons for their students or offer an option for review. It is also very helpful for students to create their own screencasts for other students to learn from or to share with a teacher so they can check for understanding.
There are many tools in which to create screeencasts on laptops as well as iPads. When using a laptop one of the easiest tools to use is Screencast-o-Matic. With a free account the user is able to create up to 15 minutes per video, push it out to YouTube as well as share the video via a link. While there are quite a few options for screencasting on an iPad, three favorites are listed below.

EducreationsThis free app also has a website to access the work you created, your students shared with you, or screencasts others have created and have posted as public so you or your students may use them. This app is very simple to use which makes it a quick way to check for understanding. Sharing finished screencasts occurs via a weblink to send in an email or to embed in a website.

KnowmiaTheir free app called "Teach" has a website to access work PLUS the added feature of being able to assign work to students with their new Assignment Wizard. While this app gives more options for creating the perfect screencast, it is still easy to use. It looks much more like a slideshow format with the added recording feature along and optional face recording (like picture in picture).

Explain EverythingThis $2.99 app can be very useful for teachers who want their screencast as a file rather than something that may only be housed online and accessed with a link. Options for export include the Camera Roll, Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, etc. This app gives more control than Educreations but not as much as Teach which makes it ideal for quick creation to include within something else such as a Keynote presentation, iMovie or a self created iBook.
