Library Science is an evolving profession requiring flexibility, vision and a curious spirit. After homesteading on the Oregon Coast for 10 years, I found myself back in PA with three young children and certification in Elementary Ed. Little children 24 hours a day – I couldn’t imagine it! So, I added Library Science certification and began my job at CYHS. The 7th Avenue library had 1 PC for circulation, CD-Roms for Access PA, study carrels, books, and study halls 9 periods a day. Today there are laptops and iPads with wireless access, databases, fewer books, couches, and block scheduling.
Today information is digital, accessible 24/7, and eBooks are replacing hard copy books. Librarians have been part of the digital change from the beginning.
